Grove Sketch is an immersive three-part series of graphite compositions on textured paper. In Grove Sketch 3, a cascade of falling leaves takes the central focus. In the forefront, two heavily shaded trees frame the piece, while a lighter tree left of center offers balance. In the background, hatching gives definition to a nearby mountain range. Throughout the piece, falling leaves, shaded outlines, and bare branches are suggestive of late autumn. Along the ground, tree roots and blades of grass are used to carefully complete the quiet forest imagery.
