Fairfield sofa with fringe skirt, cream cocktail table and paisley lounge chair before a floral panel

American Made Since 1921 · Lenoir, North Carolina

Fairfield Chair

The House

Over a century in the same North Carolina town, by the same family, with the same conviction that American craftsmanship is worth preserving. More than 100 pairs of hands touch every piece before it leaves the factory floor. That is not a marketing claim. It is the count.

Five Generations

A Century in the Making

Founded 1921 — Lenoir, NC

The Beall family had been building things in Caldwell County since 1799 — James Harper donated the 30 acres that became Lenoir in 1841. When the Ethel Chair Company went bankrupt in 1921, James Harper Beall Sr., president of the Bank of Lenoir, bought it to keep jobs in town. He renamed it Fairfield and relaunched it. Five generations of the Beall family have run the company since. In 2025, Anne-Lindsay Beall became the first woman to chair the board — unanimously elected, fourth generation.

100+ Hands on Every Piece

Someone asked how many hands touch a chair as it moves through the factory. The answer was over a hundred. Robotics handle cutting and frame precision. The upholstery — the sewing, the fitting, the hand-tying of springs — is done by craftspeople who have spent careers at the plant. Fairfield partners with Caldwell Community College on an apprenticeship to carry the skills forward.

Built Responsibly, Built to Last

Every lumber supplier holds Forest Stewardship Council certification. Frames are sustainable hardwood, kiln-dried and stable. The 60,000 frames in stock for Quick Ship are the same frames built into every custom order — held ready so lead times stay honest. When CBS furnished the new Studio 57 for CBS Mornings, they called Fairfield.
